For many San Francisco families considering a move to Marin, one of the first questions is simple:
Where in Marin should we actually live?

Located in central Marin, Larkspur and Corte Madera offer a convenient balance of accessibility and family-friendly neighborhoods.
These towns are popular with families who want excellent schools and quick access to both Highway 101 and the ferry system for commuting into San Francisco.
Downtown Larkspur in particular has a charming small-town feel, with restaurants, boutiques, and community events that bring residents together. Many families appreciate the combination of quiet residential neighborhoods and easy access to everyday conveniences.
Kentfield & Greenbrae
Kentfield and Greenbrae are known for their beautiful residential neighborhoods, strong public schools, and central location within Marin.
Many families are drawn to the area because it offers a quieter, more residential environment while still being very convenient for commuting and accessing nearby towns.
The combination of established neighborhoods, proximity to open space, and a strong school community makes this area a popular choice for families relocating from San Francisco.
San Anselmo

For my own family, one of the unexpected joys of living here has been being at the base of Ring Mountain. It’s something of a hidden jewel, with miles of hiking trails and sweeping views that stretch from Oakland to San Francisco, across Richardson Bay, and all the way to Mount Tamalpais and beyond. Being just minutes from the trailhead has become one of my favorite ways to get exercise, clear my head, and gain a little perspective.
Ross

The town itself is small and primarily residential, but many families enjoy being just minutes from the restaurants, shops, and community life of nearby San Anselmo and Larkspur.

San Rafael

Walk through neighborhoods. Visit local parks and libraries. Stop for coffee downtown. Notice how people move through their day.
Often, the right place begins to reveal itself not through research alone, but through the feeling you get when you’re there.
